To consume less, you need to know what you are consuming. With this goal in mind, Clément Chabot created an open-source card game to teach people how to manage their energy consumption.
To do this, he converted the energy consumption of everyday appliances into cycling time. Each card shows one use on one side and the cycling time required on the other.
So, did you think that for a cup of coffee,
you had to cycle for 1.5 hours?
Task : Create a website to enable users to discover and download the game Revolt.
In the middle of the first lockdown, Clément, a low-tech expert, wanted to share his energy card game and the story he wrote to illustrate the situation via a website.
Make people want to download the card game, while sparking users' curiosity through an immersive narrative.
Imagine a pedal-punk universe, the result of a harmonious blend of steampunk and bicycles, set in the era of the industrial revolution. A sober, minimalist, and light atmosphere that takes you back in time.
While the Revolt project is aimed at those who are curious to learn more about their energy consumption, those who are knowledgeable about ecology, and even gaming enthusiasts, it is also aimed at readers of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
As a result, we had to think of a way to satisfy both science fiction readers and those who “just” wanted to discover the game. So, the general idea was to present the story in a horizontal scroll to engage readers, while providing quick access to download the game without having to scroll through the story to find out more.
To create this design, I researched aged textures and drew elements related to cycling and steampunk.
The website was developed entirely independently over two days.
The card game and its rules are easy to download. Being open source, the game attracts players and its audience responds well. Users have offered to translate it into English, Spanish, and German, some have printed it on high-quality paper for greater durability, and others use it in low-tech workshops.
To learn more about my involvement in this project, I would be happy to discuss it over coffee or tea! 🫖
